There are many spots in Yogyakarta for hiking or climbing. Merapi volcano hiking is the most interesting spot for climbers. Mount Merapi is the most active mountain in Indonesia, the last eruption in 2010. Until now, the activity of Mount Merapi is still volatile. The height of the peak of Mount Merapi is 2,930 meters above sea level, per year in 2010, and will continue to change depending on its activities.
Currently, after the last eruption in 2010, the hiking trail (the safest and opened by the government) is through the Selo village route (north side of Mount Merapi). Whereas the other routes which used to be traversed (Babadan – west side, Kaliurang and Kaliadem-south side / Yogyakarta, east-Klaten side) were already impassable because they were damaged by the eruption.
There is still a chance to hike up from the east side, even not reaching up the summit. JavaBaliTrip with our team will make sure to hike it up safely through the great points to see, such as: the lava bed (was made by 1930’s eruption), endemic flora and fauna (Java Eagle etc.). Our local tour guide will be very happy to escort and explain you on the hike.
